Modelling Climate Change Impacts on Tropical Dry Forest Fauna

نویسندگان

چکیده

Tropical dry forests are among the most threatened ecosystems in world, and those occurring insular Caribbean particularly vulnerable. Climate change represents a significant threat for region small islands like Jamaica. Using Hellshire Hills protected area Jamaica, simple model was developed to project future abundance of arthropods lizards based on current sensitivities climate variables derived from rainfall temperature records. The abundances 20 modelled taxa were predicted more often by than temperature, but both found have strong impacts arthropod lizard abundance. Most projected decrease end century under drier warmer conditions. Where an increase low emissions scenario, this reduced or reversed high scenario. validation process showed that, even population, there reasonable skill predicting its annual variability. Results study show that can be used identify vulnerability similar sites effects shifting and, extension, their conservation needs.

Potential Impacts of Climate Change on the Tropical Andes

Are investigated climate change impacts on glacier melt discharge in the tropical Andes given its relevance to water resources. The means are the investigation of net radiation and potential glacier melt trends. For such purposes is assessed the investigation of the Surface and Energy Balance algorithm (SEBAL) performance, and is carried a practical application to establish the relevance of the...

Impacts of climate change on forest growth: a modelling approach with application to management

The aim of this thesis was to modify and apply a statistical growth and yield model for analysing forest resources and optimal management under a changing climate in Finland. Initially, the structural and functional properties of physiological and statistical growth and yield models were compared under the current climate to assess whether the physiological model could be utilised in the modifi...

Potential climate change impacts on temperate forest ecosystem processes

Large changes in atmospheric CO2, temperature, and precipitation are predicted by 2100, yet the long-term consequences for carbon (C), water, and nitrogen (N) cycling in forests are poorly understood. We applied the PnET-CN ecosystem model to compare the long-term effects of changing climate and atmospheric CO2 on productivity, evapotranspiration, runoff, and net nitrogen mineralization in curr...

Climate Change Impacts on Forest Growth and Mortality

In 2016, 197 nations signed the Paris Agreement and committed to limiting global temperature rise well below 2 o C [1], thus making understanding the potential for forests to mitigate climate change more important than ever. It is clear that by implementing region-specific mitigation strategies the forest sector can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. However, while for...

Impacts of Climate Change on the Global Forest Sector

The path and magnitude of future anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide will likely influence changes in climate that may impact the global forest sector. These responses in the global forest sector may have implications for international efforts to stabilize the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide. This study takes a step toward including the role of global forest sector in integrat...
